No matter at work or at home, always be careful when you need to discuss a problem. Especially if someone has to hear something s/he will not like.
- Start the conversation with it's purpose - "I want to talk to you, because I think we can make it better" or "Why don't we try to improve..." Remember, we all want to make things better.
- Don't blame anyone. Even when you want to scream s/he's guilty and he caused the problem, never let it happen. Try to say things like it's common fault and you all have to deal with it.
- Always suggest help. Ask the other one if s/he needs help. May be s/he has a reason for acting this "not the best" way. "If you need any help, I can try to...". If s/he doesn't at leas s/he will feel guilty that you deserve better for being so nice and understanding.
- Show the big picture. Don't stay into the details, but make things bigger. Just compare the two phrases: "When you are doing that, I would like it more if you start being more careful..." and "Let's make it a real success. Being perfect is a result of excellent details".
And don't forget that every great thought can be pointless if it's said in the wrong way.
